Hillary is Coming to the Hilltop

If you’re anything like us here at 4E, you probably freaked out pretty hard when you found out Hillary was coming to campus. I mean, after all, What Dreams Are Made Of” is a modern classic.

But after watching “The Lizzie McGuire Movie” for the umpteenth time in order to prepare ourselves for what we thought would be the first stop in the 2017 Hillary Duff Comeback Tour, we noticed something a little odd about our email invitations to the event in Gaston Hall on Friday.

The invitation didn’t say Hillary Duff, it said Hillary Rodham ClintonThis couldn’t be.

Last we’d heard, the former Secretary of State and pantsuit-aficionado was lost deep in the woods of Chappaqua, New York with her dogs. We wanted to do something about it, but sending a search team to look for America’s most accomplished grandma isn’t a part of The Hoya‘s budget.

At first, we didn’t know what to think. After months of #FakeNews, we didn’t know if we could even trust our own eyes. But there it was right in front of us.

The Hon. Hillary Rodham Clinton is coming to the Hilltop!

Since the announcement, questions have arisen.

  1. Do we get in line at 3 AM or 4 AM?
  2. Should we wear that old campaign T-shirt we haven’t been able to look at since November 8th without vigorously crying?
  3. Will she mention Trump?
(Editor’s note: In a perfect world, he would show up at the speech too and they’d have a wizard’s duel à la McGonagall and Snape in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” over the presidency but hey, we get that that might be asking for a little too much. In fairness though, Healy Hall has always reminded us of Hogwarts.)

Whatever Hillz says, we’re sure it’ll be memorable. Almost as memorable as that time she won the popular vote by a few million votes and somehow still didn’t become president! Hahaha you’re so funny @ElectoralCollege! We’ll never get over that one! #TBT

Oh and Bill, if you see this, feel free to come too. We promise to get you lots of balloons.

Throwback Thursday: Trump’s Presidential Bid

TBT Trump

More than a year ago today, on June 16, 2015, Donald J. Trump, the real estate mogul and reality TV star announced his presidential bid.

Fast forward some thirteen months, during which we’ve witnessed 403 spins of the earth, the development of Pokémon Go, the death of Prince, the continued rise of ISIS and the welcomed emergence of Mac n’ Cheetos, to the past few days… On July 21, 2016, our favorite head of hair to mock and its owner, Donald J. Trump, accepted the official GOP nomination for President of the United States.

Going back to a Mac n’ Cheetos-less time around a year ago, Trump’s bid announcement was met by many a comedic tweet. It is safe to say that since this spike in media coverage, the success of his campaign has come as somewhat of a surprise to many here in America and around the world. Let us go back to that fateful day in June of 2015 and ponder the things we would have thought to be just as feasible as Trump winning the nomination.

We would colonize Mars. While seemingly unlikely, this idea isn’t too far-fetched. Rumor has it: kids are already in training to be the first astronauts to go… or maybe this is just the making of the next Punk’d. Sound familiar?

A video game would infiltrate time and space.  Again, unlikely, but not unwarranted. To the surprise of parents and even global political leaders, Pokémon Go has made getting outside and playing video games at the same time a possibility.

Pigs would fly. While it may be physically impossible for pigs to grow wings and take off flying, it is likely that at some point today, a live pig will be on an airplane.

Britney Spears would make an unparalleled comeback rising to the top of the charts and maintaining her position as World Pop Idol for 100 days. This too, could happen.

Rather outlandish for sure, but not outside the realm of possibilities. There are many things we thought more feasible than the rise of Donald J. Trump. Moral of the story: Continue to think out-of-the-box, and before you know it, your dream/nightmare may very well become reality.

RIP Jack Sr.

jack

As any Georgetown student, D.C. citizen and dog-lover already knows, our dear Jack Sr. passed on this past Tuesday. The pup was 12 years old, and had been in his second year of retirement. Anyone who lived in New South during the school year of 2012-2013 will remember, Jack Sr. was the lovable pet of the freshman dorm. We here at 4E already miss him.  And, as it turns out, everyone else is having the same emotions as us (obviously).

Here is the Georgetown’s community response to this tragic event:

Of course all the Georgetown-based media immediately spread the news.

Most people have just reacted with pure sadness and shock. Personally, I didn’t even see this coming. The shock is what affected me the most.

Childhood Stars Comeback?

Lizzie-McGuire-Disney-Channel-Shows-

With all these surprise albums and collaborations coming out, we at 4E have noticed that we’ve been having a hard time keeping up with who’s who in the music world. Take FKA Twigs, for example. She has suddenly blown up and all we find ourselves doing is scratching our heads at the mention of her name.

Times like these are when we wish we were back in the glory days of the early 2000’s, when we all listened to Hannah Montana on our Disney Mix Sticks and ‘N sync on our Hit Clips.

mix stick hit clips

To ease your confusion with the present day music scene, we’ve decided to make a list of our top 5 childhood music stars that we wish would make a comeback. Hopefully this list will also help ease the fact that Disney Channel and Nickelodeon are no longer the same channels they used to be. #TBT

  1. Aaron Carter. This little stud first gained popularity because of the fact that his older brother Nick Carter is in the Backstreet Boys. His first studio album had the hits “I Want Candy” and “Aaron’s Party (Come and Get it)” that had us all bouncing in our seats and jamming to our Walkmans. We miss how it felt to be carefree kids, going to house parties at 10 years old that we thought were so cool. The feeling of pure ignorance as a kid is what made Aaron Carter so successful, and as college students struggling through midterms, I’m sure we could all use some of that right now. aaron carter
  2. The Cheetah Girls. Who didn’t love this dynamic pop group? Their songs were filled with messages of girl power and staying true to yourself, and their movies took us on adventures through Spain and India. Everyone had the lyrics to “Strut” and “Cheetah Sisters” memorized (we’re sure you still do) and in all they were just a feel-good group that reminded us all that we have friends that have our backs through the good and the bad.the cheetah girls
  3. Aly and A.J. If you don’t remember this duo, you’re lying. These are the pop princesses that brought you “Potential Breakup Song” and “Chemicals React” (which we still jam to these days) and were part of the few Disney Channel stars that could actually sing and were not just thrown a recording contract for being on a hit T.V. show. We loved them for their electro-pop influences and their ability to act as well (remember Phil of the Future?) and we need more of their sassy/sweetness in our lives.Aly_&_AJ_-_Insomniatic
  4. Jesse McCartney. This hunk was in the hearts of all teenagers who had a radio/eyes during the 2000’s. He appeared in shows like Summerland and All My Children, and was in the boy band Dream Street, but really captured our hearts when he went solo and released his first album “Beautiful Soul”. This album won him multiple Kids Choice Awards (throwback!) and paved his Disney career until 2007. We miss his dreamy eyes and gorgeous hair and wish he would call our pretty faces sometime. jesse mccartney
  5. Lizzie McGuire/Hilary Duff. The epitome of the 2000’s was without a doubt, Lizzie McGuire. The TV show and following movie inspired preteens and adolescents everywhere to follow your dreams and that it was okay to have an alter ego that was a cartoon character. Her music was equally uplifting, and we still haven’t gotten over the fact that Paolo set her up to be embarrassed in front of Italy. But who else would show us what dreams are made of?Lizzie and Isabella

There you have it, our wishlist for surprise albums from our (and your) favorite artists of the early 2000’s. Feeling nostalgic yet?

Friends: A Retrospective

197679-95ad9206-b3b3-11e3-8ffb-bdc84c71056c

It has officially been over a month since Friends took Netflix by storm. One month, and so much has changed.

Here is the deal: Ten seasons + 236 episodes + 6 friends = The destruction of my social life.

*Note: I haven’t finished the show yet, but I am well on my way.*

While I think that I have lost all connection to the outside world because of this show, I gain some sense of solace in knowing that everyone (well, everyone who has their priorities in check) is going through the same thing. It is an addiction and a real #struggle.

So what have I learned in the last month?

1. Dating within friend groups is an amazing idea, until it really isn’t. But, if you keep going for enough seasons you will achieve a kind of bliss.

im-hopeless-and-awkward-and-desperate-for-love_846

2. Always make it clear if you are or are not on a break. You don’t want to start up that fight… again.

#teamross

3. Jobs aren’t important, you can go a season without a real job and no one will question it.

Rachel-Friends-Job

4. “How you doing?” is the only pickup line you ever need. Even though it will work only like 1/3 of the time.

FRIENDS-GIF3

5. Getting divorced 3 times in 10 seasons is not only allowed, it is encouraged. Despite this, you actually will find love.

G53Xhyb

6. Smelly cats can provide the inspiration for the best songs. But actually, what are they feeding you?

friends-anniversary-gif-8-o

7. There will always be that extremely annoying person who will actually NEVER GO AWAY. No matter the year, the time, the place or the person, they will find you.

tumblr_inline_mgbpak0qt01rw4yhj

8. Neighbors are forever. But if you stare at them from your window long enough they will move away. TBT ugly naked man.

Have I watched too much Friends? That’s my business. Are you judging me?

tumblr_lkixwwFaw01qc9z2jo1_500 Remember, friends who watch Friends together are better friends.

See you on Netflix.

From #mancrushmonday to #tbt, there is no social media craze that the 4E staff haven’t tackled.
