Top 5 Reasons to Get Excited for OWN IT!


If you do not know what OWN IT means or if you just think everyone is super inspirational for no reason, listen up. TODAY marks the second annual OWN IT Summit, an all day event that was created by Georgetown students and has had incredible success.

The event combines college students and leaders from different industries to talk about the role of women and empowerment. The message is amazing and 4E could not be more excited to be the media sponsor for this fantastic event.

Today is the day!

We here at 4E can hardly contain our excitement. To get you excited too, we have created the top 5 reasons why you should be screaming around campus in excitement.


1. The Speakers. OWN IT boasts some of the most amazing speakers, everyone from Shiza Shahid to Danielle Brooks. The list is incredible and the opportunities for inspiration are endless. *Cue Fangirling*

2. The App. Technology, why are you so amazing? After downloading the OWN IT app, I promptly spent half an hour taking it all in and loving every single part of it. The social media buzz is going to be incredible. Side note: be sure to follow all of the important accounts to stay in the know during the event (@thehoya, @thehoya4E, @justownit) and hashtag all posts with #ownit2015 to get it trending!

3. The Performance. All Summit attendees will have the honor of seeing Azure Antoinette perform on Saturday. As a spoken word poet, Azure is sure to inspire us for a day of learning and community! If you have not seen any of her videos, you need to check them out now. She is incredible.

4. The Breakout Sessions. This part of the Summit might be the most exciting, as the students have the opportunity to speak with and learn from professionals in the fields they are interested in and create bonds with inspirational women. I cannot wait to attend my breakout sessions and meet the College Prepster.

5. The Past, The Present and The Future. Being a part of OWN IT is an amazing opportunity. While this is the second annual Summit, each attendee is still playing a huge part in bringing a revolutionary idea to the world. After last year’s overwhelming success, the OWN IT Summit is back! As The Hoya is the campus media partner, 4E will be periodically bringing you profiles of the illustrious speakers. Today, 4E is proud to profile 2014 Thiel Fellow and Co-Founder of The Crated, Creative Technologist Madison Maxey!


Madison (Maddy) is a creative technologist hailing from San Diego, CA.

Maddy began interning in the fashion industry at age 16 for a variety of companies, including Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Ricco, Peter Som and Nylon Magazine.


After completing her sophomore year at Parsons, founding a popular fashion blog and winning a scholarship from CFDA & Teen Vogue, she start her own collection of blazers called Madison Maxey.


In 2013 Maddy became a Thiel Fellow, receiving a $100,000 stipend. As a Fellow, Maddy focused on R&D in the wearables and computation design space through her company, The CRATED.


The Crated invests product development into emerging wearable tech and enhanced apparel companies.


Recently her work has been featured in publications like The Wall Street Journal and Fast Company. She currently spends her time computing and designing at The CRATED.

OWN IT Speaker Profiles: Carly A. Heitlinger

After last year’s overwhelming success, the OWN IT Summit is back! As The Hoya is the campus media partner, 4E will be periodically bringing you profiles of the illustrious speakers. Today, 4E is proud to profile Georgetown alumna and founder of the College Prepster, Carly A. Heitlinger!


Carly grew up in Tampa, Florida. She describes herself as a “quirky, Type A, workaholic”; a personality any Georgetown student can relate with.


Carly attended Georgetown University where she majored in marketing in the MSB. She started blogging during her freshman year.


Interesting fact: she was on the men’s heavyweight rowing team during this time!


In 2010, during her sophomore year, Carly wrote and published her first book, “The Freshman 50”. This book is one part memoir and one part survival guide. In the book, Carly explains that 50 things she wished she knew before going to college.


Since she graduated from Georgetown in 2012, she moved to New York City with her dog, Teddy!


By the way, Teddy is on Instagram and is incredibly adorable. Follow @theodorefitzpatrick for all the cute doggy pics!

Since then, she has basically taken over social media with her extremely popular blog, her hilarious Twitter, her envy worthy Instagram (shoot me a follow, please!) and her informative Youtube channel!

Her blog, The College Prepster, is an entertaining blog that chronicles her day-to-day activities, her fashion advice, her various types of recommendations and much more! If you haven’t checked it out, you should. It is one of my favorite bookmarks on my computer!

After last year’s overwhelming success, the OWN IT Summit is back! As The Hoya is the campus media partner, 4E will be periodically bringing you profiles of the illustrious speakers. Our third featured speaker is the founder and CEO of Travel Noire, Zim Ugochukwu.

While she has lived all over the world, she is currently residing in San Francisco.


Those locations included New Delhi, Greensboro, Bangalore and Dharamshala!

Zim attended the University of North Carolina, where she studied Biology.

Zim was named one of Glamour’s 20 Amazing Young Women Who are Already Changing the World.

And, she was named one of 10 of America’s Most Daring Young Black Activists. Talk about accomplished.

OWN IT Speaker Profiles: Azure Antoinette

OWN IT Speaker Profiles

After last year’s overwhelming success, the OWN IT Summit is back! As The Hoya is the campus media partner, 4E will be periodically bringing you profiles of the illustrious speakers. Our second featured speaker is the poet, arts education advocate and CEO Azure Antoinette. 


She was called “the Maya Angelou of the Millennial Generation” by Forbes Magazine when they included her in their 2012 “100 Most Powerful Women in the World.”

Azure worked in human resources for six and a half years. One day she heard a Def Poetry Jam poem that ended with the line, “Do not let this universe regret you.” The next morning she quit her job to become a poet. She had $4 in her bank account but she says she was happy.

Now she’s taking over the world.

In addition to being a phenom poet, she is the founder and CEO of the Aalchemik Collective. The collective includes an independent publishing house, an apparel company, a visual art incubator that supports urban art, and STODIO: Alchemy, an arts education organization, which motivates and teaches 15 to 22-year-old artists.

Azure has written for Maria Shriver, The Gap, Johnson & Johnson, Beats By Dr. Dre, Girl Scouts of America, The Documentary Group, California Arts Council and American Cancer Society’s benefit Art 4 Life. She is an official Clean & Clear Ambassador for the “See the Real Me” campaign and has published the books BitterSweet, Commissioned and Commissioned: The Back Story.
