Oscars Drinking Game

Get out your champagne flutes and call your limo driver!

It’s red carpet season, and the greatest awards show of all is TONIGHT: The Oscars.

Even if you’re having trouble locating your Cartier earrings and haute couture ballgown, don’t stress. Get yourself to a TV, pop that bubbly, and get ready to judge the rich and famous as if you didn’t wear sweats to class on a daily basis.

If you are over the age of 21 and read Daily Mail updates as soon as you get up in the morning, this drinking game is for you. If you’re not into showbiz, this will help you become an interesting/worthwhile person to hang out with.

Without further ado…

Take a shot every time:

There’s an awkward break in the program because they couldn’t get it together and find an inoffensive host. Why’d you have to go and be homophobic like that, Kevin??

Someone’s heartfelt acceptance speech is played off.

I’d like to thank my mom for giving birth to me so that I could write this article.

There’s a Trump joke but it really just isn’t even funny anymore. :/

Rami Malek has a wide-eyed look on his face that makes you want to cuddle him and ask, “Baby are you okay???”

Take 2 shots every time:

You see a celeb with a whole new face. Renée Zellweger  is that a mask, sweetie?

Someone does the “Wakanda Forever” salute.

A winner doesn’t show up to grab their statue because they’re just TOO GOOD. My money’s on Kendrick — the man has a Pulitzer and simply does not need a little golden naked man on his shelf.

Your fave gets absolutely ROBBED. Glenn Close is cute and all, but if Gaga doesn’t get that gold, I’m gonna take to the streets. Sorry, not sorry.

Finish your drink when:

Lady Gaga repeats her now-iconic line: “There can be 100 people in a room, and 99 don’t believe in you, but just ONE…”

BUT I ALWAYS BELIEVED IN YOU, GAGA.

You spot a Hoya! #Hoyas4BCoop #ButtChug4BCoop #WhoSaidThat

You make it through the entire show!! You are a star and you deserve your own award!!

Stay fabulous, my friends. Perhaps we, too, can be as hot and cool as Bradley Cooper someday.

What Clubs Famous People Would Be In At Georgetown

As one of the top 20 schools in the U.S. (and home to the hottest college men, according to Tinder), Georgetown is generally accepted as a place for the ~elite~.

We’re not an Ivy but… yeah, pretty much.

While a fair number of VIPs have walked these hallowed halls (I sometimes daydream about running into Bradley Cooper in the dish return at Leo’s), with a 16% acceptance rate, it’s hard to “catch ‘em all.”

I still cringe…

Once you’ve figured out what famous Hoya you are, come take a break from procrastinating for finals reality with me and imagine what clubs your favorite celebs would be in if they had sported the good ol’ blue and gray.

*wipes away tear*

The Kardashians – Thirty-Seventh

We all know that these gals enjoy the finer things in life. I can’t attest to their academic aspirations, but I have a good feeling that if Kardashoyans existed, they would be major contributors to Georgetown’s premier lifestyle and fashion blog. #Yeezys #For #All

If you stop reading 4E, Kim will be mad.

Emma Watson – Blue and Gray

This is the friend that you want to hate but can’t because they’re just too nice. Smart, beautiful, vaguely international—they make Georgetown look damn good. You may resent this pal’s borderline *magical* talents, but you have to admit that this kid is going places.

A typical Georgetown know-it-all.

Mark Ruffalo – The Corp

To all my Ruffalovers out there, this one’s for you. This Bernie Bro can sport a knit fleece like no other, and will engage you in a long-winded discussion on conspiracy theories if you so much as whisper the words “inside job.” Can’t you imagine the man behind The Hulk, once dubbed a “sentient farmer’s market,” serving you your double shot of espresso at Midnight MUG with a crinkly, good-natured smile? We know we can.

That woven bracelet tho :-O

Ivanka Trump – GUASFCU

The First Daughter was a student in the MSB for two years before transferring to Penn (*cough* complicit). Her penchant for fancy shoes and ambiguous business buzz-words would make her a prime candidate for Georgetown’s most prestigious financial association.

If you don’t sleep in a suit, are you really an MSBro?

Zac Efron – GUGS

The High School Musical and Neighbors star is truly a man of the people. For this reason, he’d be a member of one of Georgetown’s most accepting clubs, flipping delicious meat spheres burgers for the masses on Friday afternoons. *sings We’re All In This Together with added enthusiasm*

If only Georgetown had real frats…

Stay warm, people. If Bradley Cooper made it through finals, so can we.

President-Elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet Picks Celebrity Apprentice Version

trump cabinetIt has been a little over a month since our nation elected our 45th president, and slowly but surely, our country is accepting the results. President-elect Trump has just about finalized his Cabinet, leaving many Americans equally disillusioned. With that being said, I am not here to comment on politics or on the choices our President-Elect has made, but rather, to offer my opinions on who he should have appointed to Cabinet positions from his wildly successful television series, The Celebrity Apprentice. I whole-heartedly believe these “celebrities” could do the job better than anyone our future president could nominate.

Education Secretary: Lil Jon

Who could be a better Education Secretary than Lil Jon? With a high school education under his belt and a grasp on the English language so strong he was able to come up with the party-shattering lyrics:

“Fire up that loud
Another round of shots

Turn down for what?” (repeat 5x)

This man clearly knows what a good education is all about. All jokes aside, he could do wonders for schools’ fine arts programs.

Secretary of Health and Human Services: Lisa Rinna

The clear pick of all former cast mates is Lisa Rinna. This woman knows what she is talking about in regards to surgeries. She is an admitted fan of Botox and can talk about lip injections more knowledgeably than a plastic surgeon.

Secretary of Transportation: Khloe Kardashian

I would like to start off by saying the Kardashians are practically America’s royalty, so obviously one of them needs to be in our government. Khloé should be a go-to pick for Trump, considering she knows a thing or two about expensive cars and private jets.

Secretary of Treasury: Teresa Giudice

Another no-brainer: why wouldn’t we want Teresa Giudice in charge of the Treasury? She went to jail and learned her lesson about fraud and tax evasion, so who better than to manage our nation’s wealth? If anyone knows anything about the importance of healthy finances, it is this woman.

Secretary of Defense: Piers Morgan

Have we all seen Piers Morgan’s Twitter attacks on Chrissy Teigen? I mean honestly I would not want to oppose this guy. All it will take is 140 characters for him to bring down Putin.

Administrator of Environmental Protection Agency: Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi

Similar to Teresa Giudice, I think Snooki would be an excellent addition to our nation’s Cabinet considering she has learned from experience. After PETA put Snooki on blast for dyeing her dog purple, I truly believe she is a reformed woman and would do our nation well by serving as Administrator of Environmental Protection Agency.

Administrator of Small Business Administration: Stephen Baldwin

As the not as famous Baldwin brother, Stephen knows what it is like to deal with “less.” Less fame, less fortune, less popularity. Therefore, who would be better-equipped than to deal with small businesses, who, let’s face it, cannot compare to corporations like Microsoft and Apple, than Stephen Baldwin?

Ambassador to the United Nations: Sharon Osbourne

The clear pick is Sharon Osbourne. She has a British accent, need I say more?

So who will be President-Elect Trump’s Secretary of State appointment? Your guess is as good as mine, but if we’re going by The Celebrity Apprentice cast, my vote would be for Kevin Jonas because, come on, who wouldn’t love a Jonas in the spotlight again?

Rock The Vote: Celeb Style

Banner - Rock the VoteWith the primaries in full swing and the election looming, it’s impossible to escape politics here in the nation’s capital. When people are not busy interrogating you about your major and future career plans, they’ll ask the question on everyone’s mind: “Who are you voting for?”. If your answer is an awkward smile while you rack your brain for the name of a candidate, never fear. 4E and your favorite celebrities are here to help you out.

Candidate 1: Hillary Clinton

No one can deny that Hillary has been hot on the social media scene and, in doing so, has snagged the endorsements of some trustworthy and notable celebrities. Most recently, Ja Rule publicly endorsed Ms. Clinton saying “I like Hillary, I like Hillary. But you know, it’s crazy because…I also think Jeb is a good candidate as well, but, you know, I don’t — I’m a Democrat, so yeah, so I would vote Hillary.” Not only is Ja decisive, it’s clear that he’s thoroughly researched Clinton’s platform. Feel free to use this quote at your next dinner party.

murdaaaa

If Ja was not enough to sway you, let us turn our attention to celebrity endorser number two, Waka Flocka Flame who reasoned that “A woman could do it. I’ve seen my momma raise five boys — that’s super hard, so women can do the same s*** that men could do.” Waka has even hinted that he may help Clinton with her campaign if she promotes his latest album “Flockaveli 2.” In short, anyone’s mom can run for president, but since Hillary’s offering, she deserves your vote.

wakaaa

Hillary has additionally been supported by numerous other major names in the rap industry including 50 cent, Snoop Dogg and ASAP Rocky. She has even earned the vote of the selfie queen, Kim Kardashian, and the actual queen, Beyonce.

Word Up Hill!

Candidate 2: Donald Trump

As if Trump’s trendy “Make America Great Again” snapbacks were not enough of a draw, multiple big names have publicly voiced their support for the outspoken candidate. Before we hit the celeb scene, let’s hear from a renowned and respected politician, Sarah Palin who was quoted saying, “He is from the private sector, not a politician, can I get a ‘Hallelujah’?” Hallelujah, Sarah! Not only does she understand the definition of a private sector, she also seems to have a distaste for politicians, fitting for someone of her occupation.

palin

If you’re not concerned about private sectors, you may be concerned about other strengths of Trump’s campaign. Look no further than his strongest supporters, Hulk Hogan and Ace Ventura! Hogan says “I don’t want to be in the ring with any candidates – I want to be Trump’s running mate.” Ventura, on the other hand, stated “If Donald Trump were to ask me to be his running mate, I would give it very serious consideration because anything to break up the status quo of this country.” These quotes are just a peek into Donald Trump’s extensive network of intellectual advice. Who could say no to a candidate with both Hulk and Ace on his/her side?

hogan

If you’re an animal lover, Trump is the president for you. He has seen an absolutely overwhelming outpouring of support from the feline population.

trump cat

With Trump as president, America could move ~meowntains~!

Candidate 3: Bernie Sanders

Will Ferrell is feeling the Bern…Need I say more?

ferrell

You are now prepared to rock any cocktail party, class discussion and most importantly, to rock the vote.

4E Gossip: Celeb Sightings in Georgetown

celebs

Georgetown was actually really poppin’ this Thursday; 4E was notified of not one, but two celeb sightings last night.

First, Jeb(!) Bush was spotted at Georgetown’s most insane bar, Chinese Disco. What was the Republican nominee hopeful doing there? Maybe reliving his glory years? Just kidding, he was at a fundraiser filled with Georgetown young professional (Read: yo pro’s).

IMG_2711 IMG_2709

The other celeb sighting? The one and only Reese Witherspoon! Why was she there? Duh, because she is flawless. Does she even need a reason?

4E could not snag a photo, but we assume this is what she looks like
4E could not snag a photo, but we assume this is what she looks like

I 100% regret staying in and working on my essay right now.

Which Big Heads Do You Want To See?

bighead
For every home basketball game, Hoya Blue supplies the student section with numerous “big heads” to hype up the crowd. There is a head for every player on the team, and other big heads include Bradley Cooper, Pope Francis, “Sad Scott” and Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

To give the Hoyas their best shot at winning their 5th straight game, we’ve compiled a list of big heads we’d like to see Tuesday night at 7 when Georgetown takes the court against Xavier:

Jesus Christ. Because if Isaac Copeland can’t save us, Jesus definitely can.

SEAL Team 6. Because ‘Murica.

Clint Eastwood. Because he’s a f*cking badass.

Michael Scott. Because his confidence is probably contagious.

tumblr_me48bqGdGQ1rejsa3o2_r1_250

Harry Potter. Because he finally learned how to do the Cruciatus curse (a.k.a the torture curse, because we’re going to torture Xavier with how good we are).

Kristen Wiig. Because she’ll make us laugh no matter how bad the game might get.

St. Francis Xavier. Because it will be funny for him to watch his namesake school get annihilated.

Morgan Freeman. Because he can narrate the game better than the announcers.

And a few that don’t need explanations:
Beyoncé
Little Foot
Kevin Spacey
Oprah Winfrey
Chandler Bing
Bryan Cranston

Whether or not we get these additional big heads, the game is sure to be a blast. Come watch the Hoyas destroy Xavier at Verizon. I mean, you know what they say about big heads…

Suits Meets Georgetown… Maybe?

Suits at GUIn the world of corporate law, nothing is ever simply black and white… and that’s why the USA Network series “Suits” makes for some really addicting television. Since 2011, the scandalous show has swept across the nation, captivating audiences with the sizzling drama of the fictitious Pearson Hardman law firm. But why leave it for television when you could have it here on the Hilltop?

USA Network is giving college campuses a chance for a first-look screening and Q&A with the stars of the show with the Suits: College Tour. Schools such as UC Berkley, UCLA, Boston University, Columbia University and of course Harvard will be included in the promotion! (After all, it’s the kind-of-sort-of-alma-mater-ish of “Suits” character Mike Ross… You’ll know what I mean if you watch the show.)

Are you a fan of the series? Do you want to go to law school? Do you like celebrities who talk on our campus? Regardless of your answers to any of these questions, log on and nominate Georgetown as the next tour stop! John Carroll has a few questions for Gabriel Macht, and I’m seriously just trying to take Patrick J. Adams on a Leo’s date.

So do it. Nominate Georgetown for the next stop on the “Suits” College Tour… or you’re going to end up in a scandalous legal battle of “Suits” proportions.

Staffers of the Week: Chris, Taylor and Many Office “Faces”

taylor chrisOnce a week, The Hoya recognizes a staffer that has done a particularly awesome job – now you can get to know about them too. As part of our Leavey 421 series, we’ll be posting quick interviews with each Staffer of the Week! In a special turn of events– poetic justice? divine intervention?– one of our staffers is celebrating his birthday today. Happy birthday, Chris! Keep up your fantastic work for The Hoya!

Names Chris Bien
Schools College
Years 2014
Majors Political Economy
Hometowns Los Altos Hills, CA
Positions on the Hoya Contributing Editor (former senior photo editor)

Names Taylor Wan
Schools College
Years 2016
Majors Computer Science
Hometowns New York, NY
Positions on the Hoya Web Manager (former resident female techie)

Why did you earn staffer of the week?

Chris: I think credit first has to be given to the staff for doing a lot of work on the Faces campaign. All of the photographers and recorders worked hard in making sure we had enough people for the project. Also, Lauren Weber (former Chair of the Board) and Connor Gregoire (former Editor in Chief) for organizing the charge, while the tech team made sure the website looked sick. What I did was go through the pictures we had and make sure the matched the names and info, then resized the photos for the poster and online, and then laid them out while making sure the info and pictures were prepped and ready to go to the right people for them to do their part. It took a long time but it was worth it.

Taylor: I made and helped launch the website for the Many Faces project. I don’t know him very well, but I have a feeling Chris is going to be modest in his description, so I’m just adding this: Chris went through and made edits to every photo on the project multiple times so that they would all be formatted the same, without complaint. That’s 224 photos, and he finished everything in a day, which is simply amazing. He also offered to come to the office to help find files I needed at the last minute, and was up until 3am the night before the site launched, helping sort out last minute kinks.

What is your favorite part about working for The Hoya?

Chris: My favorite part of working at The Hoya is simply the people. While it’s cool to be able to cover cool speakers, interesting events and shoot basketball games, it’s the diversity and the personalities of the people on The Hoya that make it so much fun. I consider many of the people I’ve worked with my close friends and I’ve learned and grown a lot because of them. When you end up spending 20 or more hours a week with these guys, it’s impossible to not appreciate what they’ve done and their impact on you.

Taylor: The people! Everyone is fun, quirky and wonderful to work with. Also, someone always brings some sort of gummies to the meetings…

What was your favorite part about working on the Faces project?

Chris: My favorite part was working with Connor and Lauren on Sunday night until 6am laying out the posters and Facebook-stalking people to make sure we got the right person. It definitely felt like old times in the office when we were all in editor positions.

Taylor: The Faces project was definitely a great learning experience. I got to work with a lot of unfamiliar web-making code that I honestly still don’t completely understand, and I also got to meet a lot of great people in the process. Moreover, I pretty much just implemented the best stalking tool invented since Facebook… I’m going to have a lot more of those awkward “I-think-I’ve-seen-you-before-but-I-have-no-idea-where” moments after scrolling through all those photos and names.

As you probably already know, Hunter Main is our new Managing Editor, and you were his first selections as Staffers of the Week. How would you describe #1- Hunter’s hair and #2 Hunter’s fashion sense?

Chris: I must say, Hunter’s hair has a very nice “swoosh” to the side that very appropriately fits his fashion sense. Of course, I have no sense of fashion so I think Hunter’s fashion will always beat my laid-back Cali-ness.

Taylor: I’ve actually only seen Hunter maybe twice in my life, but I’m gonna go with dark Justin Bieber hair or quirky preppy-snazzy?

If you had to make a movie about The Hoya office, what would it be called, who would you cast – and why? (Author’s Note: this final question was slightly altered for Chris and Taylor. Though a bit different, their answers are nonetheless thoroughly entertaining and long.)

Chris: If I had to name The Hoya movie, I’d call it “The Black Hole” because you enter the organization as a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed freshman, eager to take on whatever the editors give you. Then, by the time you transition out, you feel like the life has been sucked out of you because of all the work you’ve put in it and realize you feel empty inside without The Hoya filling that void.

Since I’m old, I am going to cast the senior eds that I worked with:

So for EIC Connor, I would cast Danny Tanner from Full House as since we would always call him “Dad” in the office and you would hate to disappoint him.

Opinion Editor Katherine Foley would be Kate Middleton, cause Katherine is the Duchess of Delaware.

Executive Editor Upasana Kaku would be Michelle Rodriguez because she is a boss and can dole out the pain if you didn’t do what you were supposed to do.

Managing Editor Suzanne Fonzi would be Pam from The Office cause she was the voice of reason when the office got rowdy.

Campus Editor Mariah Byrne would be Claire Dunphy from Modern Family because she’s always on top of everything when taking care of the section.

City Editor Sarah Kaplan is Katie Couric cause she always got down to the bottom of those stories.

Layout Editor Remy Samuels would be Julia Child/Martha Stewart cause seriously, the things that Remy makes are literally heavenly.

Sports Editor Pat Curran would be Seth Rogan cause both are lovable guys who love to make jokes.

Guide Steven Piccione would be Adrian Monk cause he seems to always have a solution to a problem while liking things a particular way.

Copy Chief Sam Randazzo would be Heidi Klum cause her fashion sense is ridiculously awesome.

Blog Editor Michelle Cassidy would be a llama, cause she is one.

And Jon Rabar would naturally be James Bond. But not a Daniel Craig James Bond, more like Sean Connery James Bond, because Jon is more of a suave Bond than your rough-and-tumble Bond.

If you had to make a movie about The Hoya office, what would it be called, and which celebrities would you have play Danny Funt and Mary Nancy Walter — and why?

Taylor: Umm… some sort of musical comedy, maybe titled “The Publisher and the Published?” Also disclaimer: I stink at matching people to celebrities, so I’m just going to go with Daniel Radcliffe and Jennifer Lawrence. (Editor’s note: this is beyond hilarious to me).
