M Street Says Goodbye to Froyo (Again)

027

Today 4E discovered the greatest tragedy on M Street since the closure of RhinoSweetgreen has stopped serving frozen yogurt. This feels like a personal attack, as Sweetgreen was founded by three Georgetown graduates.

When the local Pinkberry closed its doors last spring, packs of basic white girls flocked to the corner of M and Bank to get their fix of this “healthy” ice cream alternative. However, now Sweetgreen has decided to cease production of their only dessert option, sticking to the standards: salad, grain bowls, soups and beverages.

After spending $11 on a salad with lite dressing and saying no to bread, a small cup of froyo was the perfect indulgence. What’s the point of salad if not to justify dessert?

Although frozen yogurt does have fewer calories than ice cream, walking a few extra blocks to T Sweets or Ben and Jerry’s will help even out your consumption. (Okay, it probably won’t, but you can convince yourself otherwise.)

Thankfully Pinkberry has reopened, but without Sweetgreen froyo, nothing is the same.

Good luck finding alternative summer snacks, and RIP to the Sweetgreen froyo business.

4E Celebrates 4/20

4.20

This Monday is a very important day for many DC residents: April 20, or 4/20, is a day of celebration for the flowering plant known as cannabis.

Although marijuana use is not legal for DC residents under 21 or anywhere on Georgetown’s campus, 4E has come up with several ways for you to partake in the 4/20 festivities without breaking the law or suffering from the terrible, and probably fatal, medical effects of marijuana use.

1. Get breakfast at First Bake at Farmers Fishers Bakers to get your 4/20 started off right. Enjoy a pot of coffee with your cinnamon rolls.

2. Grab a cupcake from Baked & Wired – they might even have cannabis-shaped cookies on hand. Eat your dessert on the grass by the waterfront.

3. Treat yourself to falafel from Amsterdam Falafelshop in Adam’s Morgan or on 14th Street. To celebrate Amsterdam’s status as the weed capitol of the world, the falafel joint is featuring a special 4/20 pairing menu so that you can get the perfect pita combination to complement your strain of choice.

4. Enjoy a crepe from Muncheez on Wisconsin. Their nutella crepe is dope.

5.Devour a scoop of Ben & Jerry’s Half Baked, or read up on one of their new, rumored weed-enhanced flavors. Not to be blunt, but Half Baked is definitely the best flavor year-round.

Happy 4/20 Hoyas! We hope it’s a high point in your year.

Ben and Jerry’s Pot-Infused Ice Cream

bob-marley_03

We all knew that Ben and Jerry had some hippie habits with their introduction of ice cream flavors such as Half-baked, Phish Food and Jamaican Me Crazy. But now the duo are ready to take it to the next level: they are proposing a pot-infused ice cream flavor! With marijuana being legalized in several states such as Colorado, Washington, Alaska and now DC, the two are quoted saying “makes sense to me, combine your pleasures”. Considering that in the last year Colorado sold over 5 million edibles, Ben and Jerry could be on to something. And have they let us down before?

Here are some possible names for this proposed ice cream….

Super-Baked: This ice cream flavor is similar to half-baked except for the fact that swirled in with those cookie dough chunks is a sprinkle of cannabis… or maybe more that a sprinkle.

Is This Love: In honor of the dread wearing, free lovin’ Jamaican legend Bob Marley, this flavor takes on a more tropical feel. You’ll be able to be free of worry as you taste this mango and pineapple combo… and a little marijuana.

Two Birds, One Stone(d):  As Ben Cohen stated earlier why not “combine two pleasures”? This Nutella, caramel and weed infused ice cream may do the trick.

Cannabiscotti and Cream: Sorry to say I did not come up with this name myself, but it sounds pretty clever to me. This flavor would have a more sophisticated flare with biscotti chunks and a rich butterscotch after taste.

Chunky Monkey Munchies: A play on an already existing Ben and Jerry’s flavor, Chunky Monkey, this ice cream with chocolate chunks and walnuts may leave you feeling hungrier. Lucky for you, this isn’t your first rodeo and you are prepared with another pint of ice cream.

Blaze of Glory: For all of those chocolate lovers out there, this is the flavor for you. It’s creamy chocolate ice cream infused with “special” brownies will leave you feeling delightful.

Though Ben and Jerry consider this idea to be genius, it is not up to them if production can actually begin.  So, it may be a while until we actually see this ice cream in stores.

The Ultimate Ben & Jerry’s and Netflix Pairing Menu

Netflix Ice Cream

There are many things that go hand in hand without need for explanation. Football and Thanksgiving, Lau 2 and procrastination, Burnett’s and regrets, winter and leggings, Leo’s and sickness, Rhino and freshmen. But one of the most important of all of these is a good ol’ pint of Ben & Jerry’s and your go-to Netflix show. We at 4E have enough experience to provide you with a proper menu for pairing the perfect flavor with the perfect show.

“House of Cards” and Americone Dream:  What better way to celebrate ‘MERICA and its politically corrupt president in “House of Cards” with a vanilla, caramel, chocolate swirl waffle cone infused pint of B&J. You’ll be scooping mouthfuls of this stuff as you observe Frank mercilessly and oh so cleverly battle his way to the top.

“Gilmore Girls” and Raspberry Chocolate Chunk Froyo:  You may need a little something for comfort as you ceaselessly fret over the future of Lorelai and Luke or Rory’s incessant complaints over her boy troubles. This is where a pint of delicious raspberry froyo sprinkled with chocolate chunks comes into play. Better yet, the fact that it’s froyo and says raspberry on the label makes it healthy enough to fit into the diet you started this morning.

“Weeds” and Half Baked:  With recent legalization laws in place, it’s only fitting that you celebrate with a classic stoner show and some ice cream to help with the munchies. This flavor is not very complicated, but it’s oh so good with its chunks of gooey cookie dough that your pint will be gone in no time.

“Scandal” and Karamal Sutra:  Not only will the title of this ice cream make you feel a little scandalous, but its rich caramel chocolatey core may also get you all hot and bothered. Maybe this is what you need to embrace your inner Olivia Pope and her fierceness. ¡Muy escandalosa!

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and Hazed and Confused:  What better way to watch the debauchery of these five underachievers with a little, scratch that, a lot of Ben & Jerry’s Hazed and Confused. Like this show, this ice cream combines everything that is good in life into a pint of pure bliss (hazelnut and chocolate). Beware: this show does involve hysterical laughing and tears of happiness, so remember to eat your ice cream in between episodes or during commercials.

Free Ben&Jerry’s: How To Do It Right

free ben and jerry's day

Tomorrow is the day we have all been waiting for: 3135 M Street will be dishing out free happiness! (Read as: Ben and Jerry’s FREE ICE CREAM DAY).

In all your excitement you just might lose your head and spring there right when you wake up, still in your pajamas, without your contacts on, and realize you forgot your GOCard and key. Well 4E is here to help you prepare for the big day.

1. Pick a time slot Gather your closest ice-cream-loving friends and work out when your schedules will accommodate this excursion. You’ll want to budget at least two hours to get there and back as well as wait in line! Try not to go right before that intensive language class you’ve already missed four times, but it really does depend on the time of the day! If you want to get REALLY fancy, you can make a Doodle.

2. Weather Check out the weather so you can dress accordingly, you may be outside in line for a little while! The weather tomorrow should be mid to high 70s, partly cloudy! Perfect ice cream weather.

3. Do your research You don’t want to get to the front of the line and spend more than twenty seconds ordering, the people behind you will get restless and might throw you out. Be sure to know what flavor you want before you reach the counter

4. Be adventurous Try to get something you can’t get here on campus at Snaxa or Vittles. It’s not every day you make the time to trek over to Ben & Jerry’s, so try something interesting!

Here are some flavors to consider trying if you haven’t already!

Phish Food

My personal favorite! Chocolate Ice Cream with Gooey Marshmallow Swirls, Caramel Swirls & Fudge Fish

Chocolate Peppermint Crunch

One of the newer flavors. Perfect for any mint chocolate chip lover, with a new twist: Chocolate Ice Cream with Peppermint and Fudge Swirls and Mint Chocolate Cookie Balls.

Everything But The…

If you’re going to get free B&Js, you should get the biggest bang for your buck! A Collision of Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Creams mixed with Peanut Butter Cups, HEATH® Bar Chunks, White Chocolatey Chunks, & Fudge-Covered Almonds

Late Night Snack

This flavor has always intrigued me, I hope one of my friends gets it so I can try it…maybe you can be that person? Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with a Salty Caramel Swirl & Fudge Covered Potato Chip Clusters.

Coffee Caramel Buzz

This is DEFINITELY what I’m getting. Coffee Malt Ice Cream with Whiskey Caramel Swirls & English Toffee Pieces.

GODSPEED, AND SEE YOU THERE!
