4E Rumors

4erumors

The 4E staff is probably the most eclectic group of individuals on the Georgetown campus. To be honest, I doubt I would be friends with the other bloggers without our common interest of sharing pointless news. Thankfully we are all friends, and we all work so well together, #blessed.

As we are all slightly insane and incredibly amusing, there are naturally a ton of rumors going around about us. Which are kinda true and which are completely true? You be the judge.

4E Goes to Hollywood

Hollywood-Cartoon-Sign-WallpaperWhile 4E usually posts things that are relevant, somewhat strange, and often less conventional, rarely do we take the opportunity to brief you on a day in our lives. So, in the spirit of campfire stories let us share our latest adventure…

Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 11.17.53 AM

It all started when some obscure e-mail was sent out to the masses of The Hoya, with the subject reading something along the lines of “FREE TRIP TO LA”… (we thought it was a joke at first). Actually, to be honest, a few weeks later when we boarded our flights, traveled across the country and wound up at a random dorm complex in Long Beach we STILL thought it was a joke. And if we’re being completely honest- now that we, and our fellow Hoyas, have left and returned to our respective summer lives, our random trip to LA is still seems completely unreal.

giphy-2

It turns out we were there for a conference. It was called DOHAgoals. It was all about empowering people through sports. It allowed us to share air with a lot of super stars: Michelle Obama, Maria Shriver (Hoya Saxa), Debbie Phelps (Oh, and Michael too), Nadia Comăneci, Avril Lavigne, an important man with a beautiful french accent, Abby Wambach…

giphy-3

You know, big names. Big words. Big living. There was even special furniture brought in to the giant conference center ordered especially to match the colors of the event. All expenses were paid. We ate a lot of free lunch and drank a lot of coffee. And it was thanks to the Qatari government.

In 4E fashion, we decided to take advantage full advantage of this FREE trip:

We hid in a hallway for 3 hours, rather than go for a run.

We posed for pictures on elevated surfaces (and spammed our GroupMe with a scrapbook of our adventure- 17+ of which no one else seemed to acknowledge…).Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 10.42.20 AM

Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 10.42.10 AM

Screen Shot 2015-07-30 at 10.42.47 AMWe wound up on a set for So You Think That You Can Dance, meaning there’s like a .0089999% chance we’ll be making our feature television debut!

We met a lot of fellow student ambassadors who were all sports management majors and proudly told them what little relevance the conference had to our own very less relevant studies.

We went to a rooftop bar, Hollywood, a karaoke bar and a bowling alley.

And if these examples are not painting the picture of a ~wild~ adventure, know that we at least had fun.

Leo’s: The Mysterious & Majestic

IMG_0250-1024x7644E has a lot to say about everyone’s favorite dining hall on campus, but first let us say: CONGRATS!

We are seriously so happy and excited for the joint success of the Georgetown Solidarity Committee and the Leo’s-Aramark campaign with their win!!! The advocacy and rallying done by students and workers on this campus have yielded extraordinary efforts:

  1. An increase in minimum wage for Aramark workers by $2.00 over the next 4 years
  2. Broader health care coverage with lower premiums
  3. Greater protection for immigrant workers
  4. A sustainability committee to improve food quality, as well as paid training for all cooks
  5. Life insurance and a scholarship fund
  6. Guarantee of union representation and a fair bargaining process for all other Aramark employees

Finally, the hardworking friendly faces that are responsible for our survival each day (literally a freshman with a meal plan owes their life to Leo’s at this point right?!) will receive the benefits and compensation that their hard work deserves!

*Even those of you who may not be particularly keen with the options at O’Donovan’s by the Waterfront have to be grateful for the familiar friendly faces that serve us our vegan banana bread, chicken tenders and wok each day.

giphy-8

Now to the other purpose of this post……

Leo’s: the mysterious and the majestic.

As an avid Leo’s goer and Leo’s lover, I find myself full of questions about the magic that goes into creating such a deluxe college cafeteria environment. My personal favorite mystery is the playlists: Where do they come from? Is there a schedule? When is the best time to go to get a little throwback 2000’s R&B/hip hop going on? But best of all… how will I ever get my own music collection to live up to the glory of Leo’s?

It’s been rumored that it is the Leo’s workers themselves who pick the playlist. While I can neither confirm nor deny this, I will commend it. It’s just always so on point.

giphy-14

Jo-Jo, 3OH!3, Michael Jackson, 50 Cent, Walking in Memphis, Get Low… They seriously run the gamut from the all-time best sing alongs to the songs that bring you back to the days of driving to the grocery store with your mom as a little kid. It’s magical.

On another note, 4E has heard the speculative rumor that Leo’s is, in some discreet way, offering tours?! True or not, we have come up with a Leo’s bucket list of our own to explore the mystery…

1. The room out back downstairs where all of the basketball players eat: what goes on in there? We figure it probably involves crowns, worship, and caviar…?

2. Where does the food come from? Actually though, they’re serving thousands of us each day, how do they cook it all? Do they have a team of minions helping them out?

3. Where does Jack the Bulldog eat? Feeling like it wouldn’t be unsafe to assume he has his own kitchen and palace somewhere up in here.

4. The elevator outside in the back: where does it go?

giphy-7
Access to Hogwarts?!!?!
giphy-6
Narnia?!!??!!

5. What are the vegan chicken nuggets made out of? Because they’re seriously so good.

For now, that is all. Congrats again, Leo’s! I’m sure many of us will be seeing you soon.

4E’s Spring Fashion Preview

SpringFashion

While many might argue that florals are the goto for spring fashion, 4E completely disagrees. Last week, The Guide published their Spring Fashion Issue, showing Hoyas all the hottest trends and how to wear their hair in badass ways (read: check out the pictures of Stephanie).

tumblr_n77vnfNr9R1r14sg6o1_500

Unfortunately, only a fraction of the photos from the extensive photo shoot made it into the newspaper. Here at 4E, we took it upon ourselves to publish some exclusive photos that didn’t quite make the final cut.

The theme for this section of the photo shoot was studious and sneaky spring. Introducing 4E’s Spring Fashion Preview:

Get ready to be (fashion) schooled!
Get ready to be (fashion) schooled!

(Left to Right) Emily is sporting the flower pants and rain jacket look. You can never be too careful in this crazy season. Catherine rocked the Canadian tux, with the denim on denim look. So forward thinking! Courtney mixed it up by pairing a romper with a bright blue vest because spring is about color and color is life. Jenna combines the Crocs and leather tights to demonstrate the laziness we all possess.
IMG_8744
Spring fashion is all about hitting the balance between Lau appropriate and forward thinking. Look at these models caught in the act of studying. You wouldn’t think twice if you saw them walking around Lau 5! They basically blend in with the books.
IMG_8752
Here, Jenna shows us how to rock the cubicle fashion. Goodbye are the days when Hoyas hid in the cubicles! Hello to cubicle wide parties and leather everywhere. Because if you not wearing leatha, you aren’t making yourself betta.
IMG_8770
Four score and a billion years ago, the fashion choices were questionable. Nowadays, this beloved “stage” is graced with the presence of such fashionable leather and pleather. Outfits fit for a president, right?!
IMG_8816
Emily demonstrates a twist on the “classic classroom look”, bringing style and sass to the class. Her floral pants and graphic tee are the perfect clash. And look, she is even pointing at some old guy on the wall. ACADEMICS! #studiousfashion
IMG_8823
Surprise pic! Jenna caught in the studious act. The sunglasses on her head show that she is enjoying the nice weather but the jean jacket shows that she is still serious about her studies. Keep up the great work!
IMG_8762
Students gone wild! The best part of these spring fashion outfits is how interchangeable they are. Here, Jenna and Courtney are showing off their rebellious side! Gotta love the headbands, such a new and upcoming trend!
IMG_8815
***FLAWLESS! Catherine caught being artsy in her denim on denim look. She is so focused on achieving success and knows that her outfit will help her get there. Also, not how much she is able to do! Denim really is the best fabric, it allows you to study, learn, have fun, party or whatever you want!

Take some notes and follow the newest trends! Pr4Etty hurts.

Meet Our New Bloggers

This week, 4E added seven wonderful new bloggers to our staff. We had a blast meeting and interviewing our newest writers, and now it’s time for you to meet them, too:

Top 5 WWE Wrestlers of All Time:
5. John Cena: While Cena is clearly the most popular wrestler in the WWE today, I can’t justify putting him above five because of his stale character as well as having years left in his career.
4. Ric Flair: Not a lot of people have heard of Flair, but the 16-time world champ deserves a spot on this list. “The Nature Boy’s” pretty boy look with long blonde hair and sparkling robes was a character that he executed to perfection, while being a great technician in the ring.
3. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: Everyone knows The Rock thanks to his Hollywood success, but The Rock honed that charisma in the squared circle and had great success in the WWE golden days.
2. Hulk Hogan: Hulkamania brother. The Hulkster has been right at the top of popularity from when he started wrestling in the 60’s, until even today. He would absolutely be number 1, if it weren’t for perhaps the most influential wrestler of all time…
1. Stone Cold Steve Austin: Not a lot of people know who he is, and he may not have the gaudy championship numbers like Flair or Cena, but The Texas Rattlesnake is the most influential, important and entertaining wrestler. He dominated the golden years of the “Attitude Era” in the 90’s. Story lines and injuries are the only reason this extremely skilled wrestler does not have more championships, but few people have been more important to the WWE.

Maeve Cleary (COL ’17)

If I could live in any one place on campus, I would live in Leo O’Donovan’s On the Waterfront (otherwise known as “Leo’s”). No brainer. Oh, where do I start? I can go on and on about Leo’s most wonderful characteristics. For starters, it is the closest you will come to a 5-star meal in ~the district~. I mean, who doesn’t love cold baked sweet potatoes, mushy green beans drowning in salt water and plain white rice?! Oh, and even more, who doesn’t love spending $2,000 a year for such a divine eating experience?! Oh right, ME. I absolutely loathe Leo’s. I trek to Leo’s as infrequently as possible; oftentimes we go several weeks without seeing one another. And really, the inevitable reunion is quite possibly one of the most unpleasant experiences of my life. Just in case you were considering treating yourself to a meal at Leo’s today, please, for the sake of your own life satisfaction, do not. But without further ado, I will answer your question truthfully. If I could live in any one place on campus, I would choose Gaston Hall in Healy to be my home. It is exceptionally beautiful, it is centrally located on campus and most importantly, it has been graced by the presence of countless amazing individuals… cough, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey… So if anyone is looking for a new roomie and would like to move into my Gaston Hall palace next fall, just let me know!!

Top 5 Top 5 Lists:
1. Top 5 throwbacks to sing at the top of your lungs (Bust a Move can be screamed if remembered, She Will Be Loved will always be a classic)
2. Top 5 best kept secrets of Leo’s (taking fancy bread from upstairs and making a plate of oil, parmesan and oregano dip downstairs)
3. Top 5 roof views on campus (Regents is arguably even better than Reiss and not that hard to get to)
4. Top 5 things to do instead of go for a run (watch 5 episodes of “New Girl”, the 26-minute “Astronaut Nap”)
5. Top 5 awkward ways to reject a date (turn it into a “friendly dinner,” or if asked for phone number respond “I don’t have a cellphone” while hiding the phone that was in your hand.)

Top Five Words You Won’t Believe Were Added to the Oxford English Dictionary:
1. Amazeballs: As if the adjective “amazing” just wasn’t enough.
2. Ego-surfing: Now you can use “ego-surfing” to capture those weak moments when you look yourself up on Google.
3. Grrrl: Is it really a word anyway if there’s no vowel?
4. YOLO: Who would have thought Drake would make his way into the Oxford English Dictionary?
5. Hate-watch: Is it just me who is completely foreign to the concept of watching a show that you hate?

Tori Forelli (COL’ 18)

I would love to live in the bell tower of Healy. Now I know this might seem like a strange response to the given question because Healy is in fact not a dorm, but nevertheless I would love to live there. Living in the bell tower, I would have the best view on campus, and would literally be at the highest point on the Hilltop, which I believe would automatically make me the king of the hill. This location would also allow me to frequently steal the clock hands or observe all the attempts made. Sure, the constant ringing of bells in my ear could seem like a potential problem, but in fact I believe that it might be the only force in the world strong enough to wake me up for that 8:00 am Spanish class I signed up for. Now, I know that the bell tower life is not for everyone, but after watching “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” several times, I think I have what it takes.

Shakeema Gonzalez (COL’ 17)

Top 5 Scariest Feelings:
1. When you’re walking on a slippery sidewalk and you feel the heel of your shoe start to slip but you catch yourself just in time not to fall, which is probably more scary than falling itself.
2. “Did you know there was a back to the worksheet?”
3. Pop Quizzes.
4. Being cold-called in class (IT’S SYLLABUS WEEK C’MON).
5. 5 missed calls from Mom.

The Top 5 Times I Have Embarrassed Myself at Georgetown (thus far!):
I have a propensity for embarrassing myself. Luckily, it happens often, so I am well versed in handling awkward and uncomfortable situations (Step 1: Buy several cartons of Ben & Jerry’s). Despite having only completed one semester at Georgetown, I have discovered several innovative and exciting ways to experience deep embarrassment. Try one of these methods, and you too can be laughed at for years to come!
1. The time I decided it would be a good idea to do laundry in my bathrobe, locked myself out of the building and walked around a good portion of campus because I had no idea where I was. Freshman protip: try this one if you are looking to make a good first impression on upperclassmen!
2. The time I was trying to take a picture of lightning and proceeded to fall on my face. Don’t judge me, I’m from California. We don’t have weather there.
3. The time I was trying to be a good person and stop someone from drunk driving but it turned out that they were getting into an Uber. Sorry, profoundly confused and probably terrified Uber driver!
4. The time I spent two days telling my friends how good I was at using the Metro and then wound up hopelessly lost somewhere in Maryland.
5. The time I unintentionally parkoured off the treadmill in Yates. It may or may not have been in front of the entire men’s crew team.

A New Phenomenon: Georgetown Geofilters

healysnapchat

If you’ve been using Snapchat in the past several months, you’ve obviously noticed their new geofilter feature. Or, if you’re technologically challenged like me, you might have no idea what I’m talking about.

For everyone out there still struggling to understand the new, hip lingo of our generation, I’ll explain. Geofilters essentially allow you to be even more obnoxious about the amazing places you go. (Good thing I didn’t know about this during study abroad!)

geofiltersGeofilters are small graphic designs that you can add to your original Snapchat photo that specify the location you’re in. For example:

geofilters1.2

It’s pretty similar to geotagging a post on Facebook or Instagram. Don’t mind me, I’m just in the Bahamas for spring break – we might like your Instagram, but we secretly hate you. It is obnoxious in the best way possible.

So for the jetsetters out there, this is your chance to make everyone even more jealous of you. As for the rest of us who are bound 2 the 202, here are some Georgetown geofilters that 4E believes need to exist. (Note: a Georgetown DC one does exist, but it’s about as basic as they get. We can do better.)

  • Lau. All those snaps you send of yourself miserably studying in that cubicle will become that much funnier by letting everyone know exactly where you are. This geofilter definitely needs to be dark and grumpy like the building itself and the constant mood of all its inhabitants.
  • Brown house. Those late night regrettable Snapchats will only be more embarrassing by openly admitting that your current location is the infamous Brown house. Although, deep down you know you secretly love it there. Don’t lie. (Just don’t add it to Our Campus Story.)
  • The Corp. Each Corp location should probably have its own geotag, and you know that every single one will be super edgy and hipster with a bunch of Corpies doing the designs. Eating that Hilltoss salad? Geotag it! Quick coffee between classes in the ICC? Snapchat it or it didn’t happen!
  • Heal Fam Stu Cen. I’m still not really sure what we’re calling this building, but it’s so beautiful that it deserves its own geotag. I’m not sure you could fit all the letter of its name on a Snapchat though. If you could, you would immediately win the Snapchat game.
  • Leo’s. The good, the bad, the ugly, the Leo’s geotag would capture all of this. Who needs Instagram when you can Snapchat your Leo’s meals? Am I right?

Well luckily for us, it is apparently now possible to make your own geofilters! So for all the tech kids out there get cracking! Be sure to check this link for more info on how to do it.

I expect to see some great geofilters popping up in my Snapchat inbox soon! And yes, that is a challenge.

Wednesday Fixat10ns: Our Blunger Games Party Edition

Wednesday FixationsHi, y’all. Happy Wednesday. I hope your Hump Day is passing along smoothly, and I hope your first full week of classes is going splendidly. I’d also like to strongly urge you to apply to The Hoya and, more specifically, to 4E. When you do, you’ll get to write fun posts like this one and go to parties with us. *shameless self-promotion*

Speaking of, 4E is actually having a little party this weekend. It’s going to be Hunger Games-themed and we’re calling it the Blunger Games (Get it? Blog + Hunger Games?). It’s probably going to look like this:

hunger_games_single_ladies_funny1

P.S. You aren’t invited.

But even though you can’t join us for the endless amounts of fun and shenanigans that we will engage in this fin de semana, we didn’t want you to leave here empty-handed. That’s why we made this playlist for you. Usually we do this on Fridays, but that’s when we’re having our party. Sorry, not sorry.

We’re going to use this at our Blunger Games rager. You can use it whenever you’d like:

1. The Hanging Tree (DIA Plattenpussys Edit) — Jennifer Lawrence We’re going to start the night with this one because it’s from the Mockingjay soundtrack and the remix will get us hyped for battle. Also, who knew Jennifer Lawrence was such a phenomenal singer?

2. Hungry Like The Wolf — Duran Duran Obviously at the Hunger Games, people are hungry. At the Blunger Games, we are Hungry Like The Wolf.

3. Tainted Love — Soft Cell This song really seems to hit at the heart of the whole Peeta-Katniss relationship drama. So I added it.

4. I Knew You Were Trouble — Taylor Swift Yup. President Snow, this one’s for you.

5. Boss A** B**** — Nicki Minaj featuring PTAF This is how Katniss must feel every time she hits somebody with a flaming arrow.

6. Here In Your Arms — Hellogoodbye Here’s another one for Katniss and Peeta. Or do I mean Katniss and Gale? (The world will never know.) Also, I never got over my angsty phase in middle school.

7. I Will Survive — Gloria Gaynor Number one objective at the Blunger Games: Survival.

8. ***Flawless (featuring Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche) — Beyoncé Remember that part where Katniss is on the TV show and she spins around and her dress lights on fire like she’s some volcano? Good, because I’m sure she had this song in her head while it was happening.

9. Coco — Gnash (O.T. Genasis Cover) This one goes out to our Deputy Editor, Courtney “Coco” Klein. It will also provide us with a nice respite from all the violence of the Games.

10. All I Do Is Win — DJ Khaled featuring Ludacris, Rick Ross, T-Pain and Snoop Dogg In the Blunger Games, as in life, there are losers. But not my Blunger Games team. We are going to win.

Yep, that’s about it. Happy Wednesday.

Just to reiterate: You’re not invited to our party this weekend, but maybe you will be next time if you join us! So do it. May the odds be ever in your favor.

4E Finals Advice

Finals Advice

This is it, everyone. The last day of study days. Tomorrow begins finals, in which a significant portion of your grade is devoted to what you could cram in anywhere from one to more than one days of furious memorizing and practicing.

For those of you who are struggling, we at 4E decided to compile some brief words of advice for you. Embrace them or don’t – not everyone studies the same way. Good luck!

For the super-night owls:
“If you’re still on Lau 5 when the cleaning crew comes to vacuum at 3 a.m., go home.” -Michaela Murphy

For the people who like to sleep in:
“GET TO LAU EARLY. Seats will fill up and you will have nowhere to wallow in your pain. Claim your territory.” -Courtney Klein

For the people who can’t spend a day in Lau without going crazy:
“Break up your time studying with some fun activities. For example, study all morning, then go ice skating or go on a run to the White House, then study the rest of the night. Everything will morph into nothingness if you live in Lau all day.” -Meg Lizza

“While you do have to get studying done, don’t just lock yourself away in Lau for 2 weeks. Some of my best friends and closest friendships were made (or made better) while struggling through (and studying for) finals.” -Max Wheeler

For the people who are already over finals:
“Grab a coffee, head to Lau 2, and be sure to spend most of the night complaining about finals. Surefire path to success.” -Griffin Greco

For people who get distracted easily:
“Don’t try to study with your friends – only share tables with people in the outer circle of friends who you still feel shy about procrastinating in front of; if you get too close to someone you become shameless and get nothing done.” -Sara Carioscia

“AVOID LAU 2! It is a bottomless pit of desperation and sadness that will bring you (and your final grades) down. Stick to Lau 1 or Lau 4 and send your braver friends to 2 for Midnight Mug runs.” -DJ Angelini

For the, shall we say, “unconventional”:
“If you convince yourself that you already know it, then you don’t have to study.” -Kyle Murphy

“Finals advice? Don’t take them.” -Julia Kieserman

And remember:

“It’ll all be over soon… If you survive.” -Catherine McNally

“Just breathe. And when all your finals are over, TREAT YOURSELF.” -Emily Min

“This will all be over in the near future. Finals do end.” -Emma Holland
